Orchid organza : Pantone colour of the year inspired make up look

I'm not a huge fan of purple eye shadow as it can easily go wrong and look like you have two black eyes! So when I got the idea in my head to do a Pantone colour of the year make up look I was half expecting the post not to go up but as you can see it has and I'm really happy with what I created and that it didn't turn out like I had gone up against mike Tyson and lost! Haha!

So if you also like the look I created keep reading to find out how I achieved it.

On my eyes I used dainty doll eye shadow base and then taking a flat shader brush and taking the pink colour I've labelled "base colour" from BH cosmetics matte colour palette I put this all over my lid up to the crease, then taking the light purple colour I've labelled "lid colour" and another flat shader brush I applied this over the first colour. Next I took the colour I've labelled "outer corner" I put this darker purple on the outer corner of my eye and in the crease to create some definition, Also taking that darker purple and putting it under my lower lash line about three quarters of the way across. With a fluffy blending brush I took the colour I've labelled "blending colour" it is a light beige colour and blended from my crease up towards my brow bone to smooth out any harsh lines and to create a softer effect nearer the brow bone, so like I said it doesn't look like I have a black eye. Also taking that blending colour and blending the darker purple under my eye to create a smooth soft look.

Now for the eyeliner I used a felt tip from Be a bombshell in onyx and created a small wing then taking it all the way across my lid as close to the lashes as possible. I then curled my lashes with my Emite lash curler and applied mascara, I used the Rimmel scandaleyes in extreme black applying this to my top and bottom lashes and then putting on a pair of my favourite Eyelure eyelashes.

On my face I applied Rimmel Match perfection in the shade 200 soft beige with a Real techniques expert face brush and then used Maybeline 24hr super stay concealer in light under my eyes and on any blemishes then blended it with my Real techniques pointed foundation brush. For my contouring I used the bronzer in my Urban Decay flushed palette and put this in the hollows of my cheeks, my temples and jaw line then used the blusher from the flushed palette and applied this to the apples of my cheeks.

On my lips I first applied my EOS lip balm and then to add a little colour again sticking with the purple/lilac colour I used L'Oreal Glamshine stain splash in the shade cause 400 and the look was complete.

I hope you liked this makeup look as much as I do if you have any other looks you would like me to do then leave me and comment and I would love to see if you recreate this look so tweet @hannahnicolab or #hannahnhearts on Instagram to show me your pictures!

Cat walk claws : New york fashion week nail trends Fall / Winter 2014

I'm not usually a major follower of fashion when it comes to my nails I either pick a colour that goes with my outfit or just a colour or design that I like best but after looking at the fall / winter 2014 nail trends from New York fashion week I was totally in love with the elegant and sophisticated designs. Most were just natural nude colours with a swipe or edging of bright colour or modern twists on classic nail designs.

I've picked out my favourite from the runway and that I will be wearing this fall.

Kate Spade
Understated yet interesting an almond shape nail with a white polish and a yellow and matte black tip its just perfect for fall.

beauty lust list february 2014!

Here is my list of the beauty products I'm lusting over this month!

1. Beauty blender
I cant believe I haven't even tried one of these yet I think I'm just stuck in my ways with my brush and because the results I get are great I haven't even thought about venturing out to try something different. But I'm going to make it my mission to try a different method when it comes to applying my foundation, so the beauty blender is next on my list to try. I have seen so many people are raving about these and I think it's about time I joined the hype!

2. Tanya Burr nail polish
When I heard Tanya Burr was bringing out a nail polish and lip gloss range I couldn't wait to try them, sadly when I went on to www.feelunique.com to purchase a nail polish every colour was sold out! the colour I really want to get my hands on is little duck its a beautiful blue colour so I'm going to have to keep my eyes out for when they are back in stock.

3. Elizabeth Arden Eight hour cream lip protectant stick
I have used the normal Eight hour cream in the tube before and thought it was fantastic but didn't even realise that it came in stick form for your lips. So when I stumbled across this on www.debenhams.com I knew it would be something perfect for me as I love a good lip balm especially in the colder months and if I can have the eight hour cream in a handy stick to apply easily on the move well I just have to have it.

4. Benefit The Porefessional: Agent zero shine
I've seen loads pictures of the Agent zero shine powder on Instagram but haven't been quite sure what it actually was or does so after looking on www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk to get the low down on this new porefessional product I'm so eager to try it! It minimises shine and helps smooth the look of pores which sound fantastic to me as I suffer with an oily T zone so I'm always looking for powders to help diminish my oily chin. The way its package looks fantastic too you just unscrew the bottom which is the brush and then tap a small amount of powder in the lid then apply. It looks great for keeping in your bag to control any shine you have throughout the day.

5. Too Faced chocolate bar eye shadow palette
This Too faced eye shadow palette looks amazing! I mean makeup packaged as a chocolate bar what's not to love? The 16 antioxidant rich cocoa powder infused eye shadows in matte and shimmer brown, pink and plum shades look stunning and I'm craving to try this just as much as I crave a huge chocolate bar when I'm trying to eat healthy.

6. MAC Viva glam Rihanna tinted lipglass
My favourite lip colour is red and if you look through my lipstick collection the majority of them are red but strangely enough I don't own a red gloss, so this frosted blue red colour lipglass from MAC viva glam Rihanna collection took my fancy straight away. when it comes to a blue red shade it is perfect for my complexion and as I've never tried a MAC lipglass before this is something I'm dying to try!

That's what I'm lusting over this month are you dying to try any of the same products as me or have you already got your little mitts on them leave me comment and let me know.

Foody Fridays: Lemon and white chocolate cheesecake

I've been wanting to do a series of blog posts in February so I've been trying to think of something fun and that you can do at home too! And as I don't usually get my DIY head on until the weather warms up mainly because if things need painting I like to do it outside as I am not the most careful of painters. I have decided on a food series that I'm going to do every Friday and I'm calling it...Wait for it!....Foody Fridays! Not the best series title you've ever seen but I have been racking my brain for a quirky title but nothing seemed to come to me, do give me some credit though as I am baking and making all the food myself! Haha!

So here's my first Foody Friday It is a lemon and white chocolate cheesecake with a ginger biscuit base. I was inspired by a recipe I saw on This Morning it was a lemon curd cheese cake By Mary Berry, But have adapted it to my own taste and to make it more suitable for a tasty valentines treat.

Enjoy!

You will need:
200g of ginger biscuits
500g of mascarpone cheese
400g of lemon curd
50g of butter
juice of 1 lemon

150g of white chocolate
Strawberries for decorating
Icing sugar for decorating
I have blueberries in the picture but I decided to not use them.
Rolling pin
2 plastic food bags
inc cake tin with a removable bottom
spoons and mixing bowls

First I put the ginger biscuits in one of the food bags squeezed out all the air and tied a knot in the end and then placed it inside the other bag, I done this as if the first bag split it would still be held in the second and not spill every where. Now to crush the biscuits, I broke them up by hitting them with the rolling pin, I tried to get the biscuits as fine as possible so it was easier to cut the base once it was made. Once all the biscuits were crushed I poured them into a bowl.

Next I melted the butter in a saucepan and added it to the crushed biscuits and stirred it in until all the crumbs were covered in the butter.

Taking the greased tin I poured in the biscuit and butter mixture packed it all down evenly and then put in the fridge to set for 2 hours.

While the biscuit base was setting in the fridge I made the topping. First I melted the chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of boiling water. Then into a bowl I put the mascarpone and lemon curd and mixed it until it was all combined together, next adding the chocolate and again stirring until its was all combined and lastly I added the lemon juice and stirred it all in until it started to thicken.

Once the base had set I poured on the topping mixture and spread it on top to make an even surface, Then placed it in the fridge to set over night.

After leaving the cheesecake to set over night I took it out of the fridge and removed it from the tin. To remove it I placed the tin on a glass and pushed down on the two top sides until the cheesecake was out of the tin, Keeping the cheesecake on the bottom of the tray I placed it on a serving plate.

To decorate the cheesecake I washed the strawberries, cut the tops off them and then cut them in half, Once they were in half to make them into hearts I cut out a small triangle from the top of each one.

I placed the strawberries round the edge of the cheesecake and one in the middle then dusted with a little bit of icing sugar and it was ready to devour!

I hope this has inspired you to make a stir in the kitchen.
And if you make this cheesecake you find it as delicious as me and my family did!

Simple nail art tutorial: leopard and heart parcels

I love nail art but find I don't always have time to sit and do fiddly designs that takes hours to do and then god knows how many hours to dry! So I though I would show you two simple designs that are really easy to do, you only need two tools to do both and they will be dry in minutes.

You will need:
Basecoat & topcoat, I'm using Barry M Basecoat/topcoat & nail hardener all in one.
Neutral base colour, I'm using Bourjois so laque glossy in 03 Beige.
Black polish, I'm using collection 2000 maxiflex in 87 Ebony.
Pink polish, I'm using Barry M nail paint in 327 A.
White polish, I'm using Sinful colours in Bad chick.
Small dotting tool and a striper brush. My white polish comes with the striper brush.

Leopard

First start with your basecoat putting a thin coat on each nail then taking your neutral colour apply two thin coats to each finger, using an orange stick wrapped in cotton wool and dipped in acetone to remove and mistakes. Then using the pink polish and the small dotting tool make odd misshaped spots on each nail, don't put to much paint on the dotting tool at once as the varnish won't dry on the nail and its easier to just apply little at a time as you can't take it off once its on but you can keep applying until you have the correct amount. Now with the black polish and again the small dotting tool roughly go round the pink spots to make an outline, you don't want to go all the way around the pink just an rough outline on each side. keeping with the black polish make misshaped dots smaller that the pink spots then just add your top coat and your done!

Heart parcels

Again using your topcoat first apply a thin coat to each nail and then taking the same neutral colour as before putting two thin coats on each nail, cleaning up any mistakes with the orange stick wrapped in cotton wool. Now taking the white polish and the striping brush make a line down the middle of the nail and then a line going straight across the middle of the nail to make a cross. Next to do the hearts, using the pink polish and the small dotting tool make a small line going up diagonally in the middle of the nail and then doing the same the other side of the first line making sure they are joined up, Then just going in to touch up the middle of the two lines if needed, pop on the top coat and your all done!

I hope you have fun recreating these nail designs and don't forget to tweet me your pictures @hannahnicolab or share them on instagram using the hashtag #hannahnhearts
